I’m not racing this weekend but I wanted to give an update on last week’s Flat Mama Friday. My outfit became a Flat Mama celebrity on the Moms RUN This Town Facebook page within hours of posting! I had no idea but Pam of Moms RUN This Town tweeted to me to let me know!
I wore the Flat Mama for the Lilies for Lily 5k. This was my first race EVER! It was a fairly small race with around 250 participants. Perfect size for my first time out. I was so nervous about starting out too fast and not being able to finish. I ended up finishing with a ton of energy and realized I probably could have pushed myself a little more.
Nora wore purple stripes too!
I have no idea if this is typical of most races but registration took a LONG time, even for those of us that were pre-registered! Also, the race started almost 15 minutes late. Is that normal? Overall, it was a great experience and I definitely plan to do it again next year.
My goal for next year’s event is to run with Nora in the jogging stroller! Although she and my husband were great cheerleaders this time around. Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!
When I read about Live, Love, and Run‘s new feature called The Weekly Chase, I knew instantly I wanted to be a part of it! The Weekly Chase is all about connecting bloggers with other bloggers to meet our goals. Every week, bloggers will post about their goals. The topics can range from fitness, running, eating, organizing, etc.
As a former leader of college student groups, during my pre-stay at home mommy, post-college days, I was constantly asking my students to set goals, evaluate their goals, and help them to stay on track to achieve their goals. I loved watching my students achieve their goals!
As a new mom, I don’t have many goals of my own other than to be the best mom I can be to my daughter on a daily basis. As a newbie runner I think The Weekly Chase will be the perfect opportunity to push me towards setting and accomplishing running goals! One of the rules for The Weekly Chase is to set at least one goal every Monday. I have two goals for my first edition:
1. Finish my goal of running 40 miles in June. After tonight’s 5 mile run I have less than 4 miles to go!
2. Sign up for my first Half Marathon. I want to do it, think about doing it, dream about doing it, but I just haven’t pulled the trigger. This week I will sign up for a half marathon and make it public knowledge so I feel accountable.
What are your goals this week?
I am so excited to be posting for my first Flat Mama Friday!! What is Flat Mama Friday? Moms RUN This Town Ladies from chapters all over the US post their race attire for the weekend on the Moms RUN This Town Facebook Page.
Tomorrow I will be running in my first race EVER! Unless you count backyard relay races as a kid. I am ecstatic and not even a bit nervous… yet. The race is the Lilies for Lily 5K. It benefits a little girl who is in a vegetative like state after choking on a cough drop. I am more than happy to support!
And for the big reveal….
My First Flat Mama
Yesterday, I completed the Running, Loving, Living Virtual Welcome to Summer 5K! My original plan was to take my daughter, Nora, along with me but as I’ve learned in my short 6 months of motherhood, my plans typically don’t go as “planned”!
I ended up going for the run after we put Nora to bed. Confession: this was the first time I’ve ever left her after bedtime. I’m always afraid she is going to wake up and need to be fed! I’m glad I did because it wasn’t as hot but the air was still pretty heavy.
I’ve been so happy to be “just running” lately that I’m not worried about my times yet. I’m sure I will get there though. Here are my 5K results:
On another note, Happy Third Anniversary to my wonderful Husband! He is the reason this new running passion of mine has become a reality. He is always willing to watch Nora while I get in some “me” time. I love you, Stephen!
Tomorrow I will be running in my first virtual 5K! I signed up to be part of Running, Loving, Living’s Welcome to Summer Virtual Run. Toni from Running, Loving, Living is a fellow Mom’s RUN This Town Chapter Leader from New York. The plan is to run with Nora for the 3.1 miles. This is not my first virtual race. Last month I completed the Joggermom Marathon which consisted of 26.2 miles during the month of May. I really enjoyed the marathon and I can’t wait to complete my second virtual race tomorrow!
